Cecchetti Classical Ballet

The Cecchetti method of Classical Ballet offers a complete and well structured system of training which caters for the small child through to the professional dancer and the future teacher. Enjoyment is of prime importance for a young child beginning to dance and the class examinations and performance awards provide ideal opportunities for those attending classes for recreational purposes on a once a week basis. For children wishing to study in greater depth, there are the more technically demanding grade examinations.

“The Cecchetti work has given me strength, discipline and co-ordination. It wasn’t until I got into the company that I realised how lucky I was to have had that training”. Darcey Bussell (Former Principal Dancer with the Royal Ballet)

HATS - Musical Theatre

HATS - the Heights Amateur Theatre Society forms our Musical Theatre lessons. For children aged 5-18 with a passion for singing, acting and dancing who want to be part of annual productions at the Merlin Theatre. Lessons occur weekly on a Tuesday evening at Hallam Community Hall.

Previous productions by our Musical Theatre group include: Annie, Joseph and The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Matilda.

Acro and Gymnastic Dance

Acro is a challenging style for dancers and includes balancing, limbering, tumbling and partnering, based in flexibility, contortion and strength. Dancers who train through Acrobatic Arts have balanced development, are stronger, more flexible and fearless.

Commercial Dance

This is a relaxed class for those children who participate in our Modern Theatre classes. It gives pupils the chance to express themselves learning new and free styles. Commercial is similar to Street Dance and will build up children's repetoire of music styles and dance skills.

Contemporary dance combines elements of ballet, modern, and lyrical dancing to create expressive movement. Pupils are taught a mixture of free work and set exercises to help them explore new techniques and develop strength and control.

Tap Dance

Tap is one of the most enjoyable and rhythmic forms of dance, for both children and adults. All pupils studying Tap have the opportunity to take examinations, whether the technically demanding grade examinations or the performance based medals.

Modern Theatre

The Modern Theatre Dance syllabus combines many styles of dance, with an aim to produce confident versatile dancers. For children there are six grade examinations and three jazz awards. At the Heights we also teach the vocational Modern syllabus to those pupils who show potential and wish to study at a professional level.
